Contributor, Nigeria

Kaltumi Abdulazeez is a distinguished peacebuilder, humanitarian activist, and advocate for women, youth, and marginalized communities with over a decade of experience advancing peace and security across Nigeria and beyond. She holds a Master’s degree in Conflict, Security, and Development from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, and is the Founder and Executive Director of the Ladies Empowerment Goals and Support Initiative (LEGASI), a registered nonprofit championing gender equality, community resilience, and sustainable peace.

As the founder of LEGASI, Kaltumi played a pivotal role in contributing to the domestication of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agendas in Nigeria. She also served on the committee that revived the State Action Plan on WPS and YPS in Kaduna State, ensuring that these critical frameworks translate into tangible actions at the state level.

Her work spans both grassroots and policy spheres. At the grassroots, she has led trauma counseling, reintegration programs, and women-led peace initiatives in conflict-affected communities. At the national and international level, she has contributed to key policy dialogues, including the Young Humanitarian Handbook under the Compact for Young People in Humanitarian Action, and has provided technical expertise on the Humanitarian–Development–Peace Nexus with ActionAid International.

Kaltumi currently serves as a Consultant to the Office of the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), where she trains critical stakeholders on conflict prevention and peacebuilding. In addition, she serves as a Trainer with the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, delivering training to students across Europe on conflict, security, and intercultural dialogue.

Her leadership and advocacy have earned her several accolades, including the Jigawa State Government Honours Award (2016) and Community Activist of the Year from the WOF Awards (2018). She is a Generation Change Fellow with the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), a Youth Compact Champion with ActionAid International, and a fellow of the African Leadership Centre’s Peace, Security, and Development Fellowship Programme for African Women. She is also an alumna of the African Presidential Leadership Program (APLP), Rotary International’s West Africa Women in Peacebuilding Program, Mediators Beyond Borders International (MBBI), and a KAICIID International Fellow.

Kaltumi Abdulazeez continues to work at the nexus of humanitarian response, development, and peacebuilding, equipping leaders, strengthening systems, and amplifying the voices of women and youth to build inclusive, sustainable peace in Nigeria and globally.
