"Abkhazintercont" (AIC) is a local, non-governmental, non-for profit, and non-partisan Georgian organisation that aims to support civil society development and improve social-economic conditions for vulnerable people, specifically IDPs.  It is oriented towards a peaceful resolution of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict in collaboration with other groups in society.   Headquartered in Kutaisi, West Georgia, its geographical area of activity comprises the Imereti, Guria, Samegrelo, Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti Regions.

AIC started its activities in 1997.  It was registered in accordance with Georgian legislation at the Ministry of Justice of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia on May 5, 1998. Established by people interested in solving the problems faced by locals and IDPs, the organisation has actively contributed to the efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution process for the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict.

Activities

The organisation is actively involved in formal and informal meetings and bilateral diplomatic dialogue on Georgian-Abkhaz conflict resolution within and outside the country. The organisation is working on conflict resolution and peacebuilding with various social groups and people of different ages, putting a special emphasis on young people.

To this end, the organisation has conducted several projects, such as "The role of  Georgian-Abkhazian mixed marriage families in the peaceful settlement of the conflict "(funded by the Department for International Development), “Strengthening the role and capabilities of youth in peaceful conflict settlement” (realized with the support of British NGO Conciliation Resources), an exhibition “The world through our eyes - A peaceful message of young artists" and “The role of disabled persons affected by conflict in resolving conflicts" (funded by Open Society Georgia Foundation).

The organisation works actively with internally displaced persons. Throughout its existence, the organisation has implemented numerous projects aimed at their professional training, youth empowerment and social integration.
