OSDR works in the field of monitoring & evaluation, disaster risk management, sustainable development and agriculture capacity building in order to build peace in Afghanistan.

Organization for Sustainable Development and Research (OSDR) is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit organization created on 2008 by a group of sympathetic Afghans with aims for working in the field of survey, monitoring & evaluation, disaster risk management, sustainable development and agriculture capacity building.

OSDR is officially registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan under certificate no. 1187 dated 8th, May 2008.

Indeed, when some national and international organizations were created for supporting the Afghan people in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) was among the International organizations established for the same purpose thus later by the year 1987 for studying the agriculture situation of Afghanistan the SCA initiated for creation of Agriculture Survey for Afghanistan (ASA/SCA), the ASA was affiliated with ACBAR from 1954-2001 and later to IRC from 2001-2002 and for a long period it was working under the framework of the aforesaid organizations.

Likewise by 2002 the ASA was affiliated with Coordination of Afghan Relief (CoAR) a national NGO and the ASA was renamed into Afghan Survey Unit (ASU) thus from the initial of its joining in 2002 till mid 2008 the ASU has succeeded for implementing a large number of projects in the field of Survey, Monitoring and Evaluation supported by different donors.

So far, in order to support the Afghan people as well as taking an active part in the country's development process and to prevail the shortcomings in a good manner the Afghan Survey Unit in collaboration with the Disaster Risk Management Sector of CoAR was entitled as an independent organization named Organization for Sustainable Development and Research (OSDR).

Vision: Afghanistan emerging as a strong nation, recovered from the ravages of conflict, and on the path of development that is sustainable, peaceful, resilient from future risks, equitable and just to all citizens, and based on people’s aspirations and achieved through people centric decision making.

Mission: To raise a strong cadre of development professionals in Afghanistan, in the government as well as non-governmental and private sectors, and equipping them with state-of-the-art knowledge and skills to enable community based sustainable development and disaster risk reduction in the country.
