The Anti-Mines Network Rwenzori (AMNET-R) started in 1999 at the height of the insurgency of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). It began as a peacebuilding organisation, working to raise awareness among communities of landmine and conflict resolution issues. The region was infested with land mines that killed a lot of people and increased animosity. AMNET-R advocated for a peaceful Rwenzori region free from armed conflict and land mines. Their campaign encouraged harmonious co-existence within the communities and total ban of land mine usage by the warring parties.

AMNET-R held several meetings with leadership of the warring parties on the effect of landmines. Its current programmes include human rights training and support to landmine victims.
