Caritas Uganda promotes community peacebuilding and reconciliation through mediation.
Last updated: August 2015

Caritas is an international development NGO, with peace and reconcilation work one of its core areas of focus. In Uganda, Caritas promotes community peacebuilding and reconciliation through mediation. Its activities include organising community peace prayers, peace education, counselling, and supporting war-affected individuals to promote their reintegration and acceptance in the community.

Caritas supports grassroots economic stabilisation and sustainability through the provision of training, farm equipment and supplies such as ox-ploughs, seeds and insecticides.

Caritas's work in Kasese was a response to escalating attacks on civilians in 1999 by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a rebel group opposed to the Ugandan government. Caritas supports war-affected communities and provides relief and assistance to the displaced populations. Caritas also promotes peacebuilding and mediate land related disputes. Current activities include training cultivators to practise modern and better farming methods and peace building methods. Caritas also encourages people to acquire titles to their land, as well as pursuing compensation for people whose crops have been destroyed by animals.
