CODE PAKISTAN was founded in May 2014 by a team of professionals with diverse expertise and strengths out of an urge to contribute to the well-being of Pakistan. Most recently CODE PAKISTAN implemented a project called the University Madrasah Interaction Program (UMIP), which was funded by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP). Besides the professional expertise of its team, CODE PAKISTAN is endowed with a vast network of like-minded individuals as well as organisations. The socio-political network of CODE PAKISTAN extends from the remote town of Chitral in the north-west of the country (where it is working to empower women through a project named “stitching hopes”) to the business hub of Karachi in the south-east (where CODE PAKISTAN is well-connected with the political/business community). CODE PAKISTAN is not only connected geographically all across Pakistan in every province as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), and Gilgit-Baltisan, but also across a spectrum of social strata including government functionaries (including police officers), parliamentarians, development organizations, political parties, religious leaders, civil society, academia, journalists, and the youth.
A key achievement of CODE Pakistan has been in the form of its collaboration with the government of Pakistan for projects on CVE. It has been collaborating with the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA). In August 2016, it organised a consultation with NACTA with a group of doctors and psychiatrists for discussing theory of extremism in connection with the mental health situation in Pakistan. Prior to that, in July 2016, CODE Pakistan assisted NACTA in organizing the National Counter Extremism Workshop. The event was widely attended by serving and retired government officials, intellectuals and academics.
