Created in 2020, the Conseil National des Jeunes Sourds de Centrafrique is the first umbrella organization that works in favor of deaf youth in the Central African Republic.

The CNJC has today for mission to:

  • To sensitize and inform by all means, the deaf youth of the CAR on social plagues such as: begging, juvenile delinquency, prostitution, alcoholism, illiteracy and STI/HIV/AIDS.
  • To solicit the training of professional teachers specialized in sign language in order to ensure a quality education to the deaf and dumb
  • Encourage the development of cultural and sports activities and organize international days for people with disabilities to promote sign language
  • To ensure an effective participation and contribution of deaf youth to the construction of peace in CAR.

In terms of activities, the organization organizes awareness campaigns in the neighborhoods by bringing together the deaf communities to talk about the progress of the peace agreements and the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250.

It works on gender-based violence within the deaf community, and denounces the lack of training of response services on the reception of the deaf (hospitals, police, etc.).

The organisation sits in the follow-up committee of the peace agreement set up by the National Youth Council, which allows them to bring the voice of the deaf youth to the leaders.
