The founders of Edusport were all trainers in the Economic Empowerment of Adolescent Girls Project (EPAG) in Liberia in which it was agreed that it is important that young people in Liberia have an environment in which they are treated with dignity. It was concluded that the trainers should organize themselves into a local NGO to provide safe and supportive environment for young girls and boys through which they can develop new and valued skills, receive peer support and enhance their social networks, enjoy freedom of expression and movement, receive mentoring support from trusted adults.

Edusport was formally established on September 19, 2010 in Monrovia but has a coverage throughout Liberia. The organization uses sports as a mechanism for the youth to have a space of their own. Sport is a unifier and contributes to peacebuilding, when young people are empowered they play a major role by contributing meaningfully to society thereby promoting the peace building process of the nation.
