Founded in 2015, the Institute for Community Development in Zimbabwe (ICOD Zim) is a women-led organisation which aims at helping the creation of an environment which ensures women and children can sustainably empower themselves. The organisation does so by addressing poverty, economic, social and political factors that limit access to opportunities for women and children in marginalised communities.
In order to do so, ICOD Zim focuses on addressing the effects of climate change, resilience and livelihoods, clean water and sanitation, health, education and life skills, as well as justice for children. At the core of their programme, ICOD Zim incorporates peacebuilding, for it recognises the importance of peace in order for communities to develop.
Activities
Currently the organisation has programmes in Masvingo, Zvishavane and Mberengwa. ICOD Zim provides researched-based policy solutions to sustainably reduce poverty, protect the environment, end hunger and malnutrition so as to ensure that women and children are empowered and protected. Through their programmes, women and children are agents of peace. The organisation's direct beneficiaries determine the programmes and project interventions its undertakes through established community advocacy.
In recognition of it's work on women and peacebuilding, the director of ICOD Zim was nominated to attend the AMANI fellowship in Thailand organised by Peace Revolution and World Peace Foundation.
