Founded in 1973, ISC was established as an educational and cultural institution dedicated to building a better world through the power of storytelling. Our goal is to inspire and empower people everywhere to capture and tell their stories, listen to the stories of others, and use storytelling to promote dialogue and produce positive change.
We are an educational and cultural institution dedicated to building a better world through the power of storytelling. Our work aims to inspire and empower people to tell their stories and use storytelling to promote dialogue and positive change.
For over forty years, the International Storytelling Center (ISC) has been at the forefront of sustaining storytelling as a traditional folk art, promoting innovation and the integration of storytelling across disciplines. The ISC serves as a national Learning Resource Center that facilitates efforts to incorporate the art of storytelling in promoting peace and justice. We create educational and professional tools, storyteller residencies, a world class festival, disseminate research, and curate and share best practices in using the art of storytelling for peace and community-building. The first era of our history as an organization was about making a place for storytelling in the world. We believe that the frontier we now face is to make a place for the world in storytelling. We are developing a world class educational outreach initiative that will establish storytelling within the arenas of international development, education, health, global NGO based collaboration. Through story we developing comprehensive global storytelling and peacebuilding training during special workshops, digital courses and onsite programs at our National Storytelling Festival. Taken together, these projects integrate storytelling as a viable tool for peacebuilding, fostering solidarity, dialogue and civic engagement. https://www.storytellingcenter.net/
