KAPINCE-Nepal works at the grassroots of society to promote peaceful, equitable and sustainable development. They focus on empowering people through education and awareness-raising, focusing on marginalised groups. By providing training, awareness-raising campaigns, and advocacy, they aim to ensure the voices of minority groups are heard, and the lives of rural populations improved.
Good Governance for Community Empowerment
To support Nepal’s progress towards peace and development, KAPINCE-Nepal aims to improve women’s economic position and empower them to become more self-reliant. This project provides women with opportunities for income generation and human rights training; raising women’s awareness of their rights and the local resources allocated to them, and empowering them to make the most of these.
KAPINCE-Nepal helped form a group of local women, and provided training in specific skills, human rights and community development. The group also discussed local problems, and learnt about opportunities such as the parts of Village Development Committee funds which are ringfenced for women’s projects. Members also discussed the current political context, the peace process and constitution-building. Participants went on to form smaller groups to spread the debate.
As well as being more generally aware of the rights, the women’s groups have ensured funds from the VDC are assigned correctly, and the group participants are more confident in interacting with the local administration to secure official documents such as citizenship papers, passports, and birth and marriage certificates.
