The Ligue Tchadienne des Droits de l'Homme (Chadian League of Human Rights, LTDH) is one of the most important human rights organisations in Chad. Founded in 1991, today it counts more than 16,000 members spread throughout the country. It has four regional coordinating centres, working with 70 local cells.
Its work is focused on five main areas:
- Human rights and citizenship education.
- Protection and defence of human rights
- Conflict transformation and peace research
- Monitoring of extractive industries
- Governance issues, including electoral support and the fight against impunity and corruption.
The LTDH's peacebuilding work focuses in particular on conflict and disputes arising from tensions between Chadians returning from the Central African Republic, Central African refugees themselves and host communites in the Moyen Chari region. It also supports peaceful inter-religious dialogue in and between communities, works on questions related to Diya (blood money), and establishes and works with school peace clubs.
The LTDH works specifically to include a gender dimension to its activities, as well as incorporate traditional authorities in its approach. The LTDH works on the understanding that equality and the law are fundamental to preventing and resolving conflict.
The LTDH participates in the work of the Peace Resources Group.
