New Donbas is public organisation that aims to build peace in Eastern Ukraine by helping people from affected towns in Donbas to build dialogue in their community and renovate facilities. It was established in 2015.
The main activity New Donbas is to support people affected by the conflict in East Ukraine, in particular with their physical and mental health. It also works to connect towns and villages in Luhansk and Donetsk, supporting communications and helping people to rebuild and repair infrastructure destroyed by the war. Its philosophy of work is human communication; by working with people, New Donbas prepares the ground for the formation of communities, which are designed to unite Ukraine into a strong civil society.
New Donbas is run by a team of volunteers. They are mainly artists: film and television directors, actors and playwrights. However, they cooperate with human rights activists, psychologists and professionals of other specialities.
The other important part of our project is documenting of what we do. We have professional filmmakers and journalists in our team who do short and long films about our activities and write materials about the mind transformations, people, conditions. We think it is important for the several reasons: we inform the society of Ukraine about the real conditions on the places; we show the real stories of people to brake the stereotypes and to eliminate prejudice towards citizens of Donetsk and Luhansk regions; we raise the questions which make authorities, potential donors and another organizations to take particular actions and to help; we encourage and involve volunteers to join the activity.
