Onkod Relief & Development Organization (ORDO) aims to support people in Somalia affected by conflict, particularly vulnerable groups including women, children and the elderly. ORDO has worked extensively with international organisations and INGOS - such as the Danish Refugee Council, Staying Alive foundation, Global Fund for Women and DIF - and local Somalia-based organisations.
An example ORDO's peacebuilding work involves the recent resolution of conflict between two clans. Over a period of months the clans were involved in violence that led to the displacement of 4,000 people and the destruction of 11 villages. ORDC intervened by first determining the cause of the conflict and then putting in place the help needed to find both short term and long term solutions to the conflict.
ORDO appealed for humanitarian support and conducted conflict resolution and peacebuilding project between the clans. Since ORDO established these programmes, peace has being restored through advocacy, seminars, sensitisation programmes, and the involvement of the local administration, regional government and civil society.
