The Pakistan Institute of Labour Education & Research (PILER) was established in 1982 to promote democracy, human and labour rights, social justice and peace. PILER works in partnership with various workers' organisations, and has played an active role in the peacebuilding process in Pakistan and the wider region.

Events focusing on peace in Pakistan are a regular component of the work of PILER. In 2008, they organised 'Taking the Peace Process Forward: 10 Years after the Nuclear Tests' a talk by an Indian journalist, Praful Bidwai. In the same year, the organisation held a 'National Peace Conference' in Hyderabad in collaboration with South Asian Partnership Pakistan, Sindh Development Forum, Sindh Agriculture and Forestry Workers Coordination Organisation.

In the aftermath of nuclear tests conducted by both India and Pakistan, PILER formed the Action Committee against the Arms Race (ACAR) with the aim to lobby against the production and use of nuclear weapons. ACAR became the Pakistan Peace Coalition (PPC) in September 1998 and serves as a bond between pro-peace groups from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta.
