The Réseau des Filles et jeunes femmes du Sud pour le Développement (Network of Girls and Young Women of the South for Development, REFSUD) was established as an NGO in 2011 by a group of young female students and development activists. It works in all development activities relevant to women and childen, organising from the ground up as a counterpoint to the big Casamance organisations which have often had the same leaders fof a long time.
REFSUD works to promote the contribution of girls and young young women in Sédhiou to the development of good governance, project management and sustainable development programmes in Casamance. It works in schools and specialises in grassroots advocacy work, including on women's rights and education. It aims to counter abuse and violence towards women and children, and also ensure full schooling for girls.
REFSUD also works to fight FGM, child marriage and pregnancy and prostitution, and has run health campaigns around HIV/Aids, cancer and malaria.
