The Ubuntu Centre is a hub for research and activities devoted to promoting peace and reconciliation, both in Burundi and throughout the Great Lakes region. Activities include drama projects, psychosocial counselling, peace education, and media programmes. They have recently introduced socioeconomic development ventures like housing and goat farming, and the centre also conducts research on ongoing sociopolitical events in Burundi, supports grassroots communities, and offers training in project management.

Consolidating Peace

This one-year project aims to consolidate the benefits of peace by supporting shared activities. These bring together former prisoners, internally displaced persons (IDPs), demobilised soldiers, returnees and other local people. The project is based in Itaba, Ruhororo and Kanyosha, and aims to bring former enemies together to work for shared development goals and overcome their prejudices. Activities include reintegrating for soldiers, IDPs and prisoners, creating forums for the discussion of peace and reconciliation, and reconstruction and income-generating projects.
