Last updated: أكتوبر 2016

Action for Nonviolence and Peacebuilding (ANP) works to contribute to sustainable peace in Kosovo by engaging diverse communities in joint action and by promoting active citizenship. It was founded in 2002 in Gjilan/Gnjilane, and since then has been constantly active in the fields of peacebuiding, peace education and public policy. Since 2014 it has broadened its field of activities by getting active in dealing with the past.

Programs and activities

ANP is currently running two main projects:

  • "Schools - The Peace Promoters" is running until 2018 providing peace education training to teachers. It is supported by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
  • "Dealing with the Past in Kosovo" is carrying out multi-ethnic tranings and oral history workshops until 2016. It is supported by KURVE Wustrow.

Previous projects have included:

  • "Demilitarization as a Solution for Security" in cooperation with Peace Action (Macedonia) and financed by Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) in 2008
  • "Don’t Play with Arms" artistic performance in 5 primary schools financed by OSCE Mission in Kosovo in 2008
  • "Empowering Youth Thru Sports Camps" 6 multi-ethnic summer camps financed by USAID and NIKE  in 2008
  • "I am an Artist" financed by Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR) in 2008
  • "Minority Stabilization in Serb Communities in Kosovo" financed by Danish Refuge Council (DRC) in 2008
  • "Stop Violence in Schools" financed by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in 2008/2009
  • "Make me Smile" financed by Save the Children in 2009

  • "Game Over" in cooperation with Peace Action (Macedonia) and financed by Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) in 2009/2010
  • "Let’s Change Something" financed by Institute for Sustainable Community (ISC) in partnership with Advocacy Training and Resource Training (ATRC) and Center for Civil Society Development (CCSD) in 2010
  • "Let’s Change Something with Art" financed by Austrian Development Cooperation (ADA) in 2010
  • "Regional Youth Against Discrimination" in cooperation with Peace Action (Macedonia) and financed by Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) in 2011
  • "Be Active Be Productive" financed by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) from 2010 until 2013
  • "Regional Youth Network Against Discrimination in West Balkan" financed by Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with Regional Network Against Discrimination and Demilitarization from 2011 until 2013
  • "Stop Discrimination" financed by US Embassy Pristina in 2012/2013

The major achievement of ANP is its long-lasting engagement for peace in Kosovo. Since 2002, many projects have been successfully implemented, including a summer camp for 600 pupils, theatre plays, short feature film productions, trainings abroad, woskshops in schools, and advocacy campaigns for community needs. The activities focus primarily on the Gjilan/Gnjilane region, but are also implemented all over Kosovo. The unbroken dedication for peacebuilding and the establishment of trustful relations with local communities and partners can be considered a great achievement.
