The BJP is an initiative that aims to contribute to the achievement of sustainable peace in Uganda.
Last updated: أغسطس 2016

The BJP is a joint initiative between the Refugee Law Project (RLP), Human Rights and Peace Centre (HURIPEC) and the Faculty of Law at Makerere University. It was built to broaden the participating organisations' work on peace and conflict-related issues in Uganda, as a direct response to the Juba peace talks between the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Government of Uganda.

The project consist of three pillars:

  1. In-depth consultation and training with key stakeholders including different branches of government;
  2. Research on critical legal and psychosocial issues for inclusion in the national reconciliation process; and
  3. A multi-layered public information campaign that reaches all sectors of society.

BJP aims to contribute to achieving sustainable peace by generating support for a national reconciliation process; demonstrating how the conflicts and their legacies are a national problem; and assisting in the development of appropriate transitional justice mechanisms with which to address these legacies.

BJP conducts research and advocacy, publishes the 'Peace Talk' newsletter, supports peace clubs in secondary schools, facilitates community dialogues on peace and justice, and sponsors radio talk shows. It is also setting up a war memorial centre in Kitgum in northern Uganda to document the experience and images of the 20-year-long LRA insurgency.
