The Caucasus Dialogue Foundation (CDF) was founded in 2000 as a network organization, the Council of which included leading NGOs engaged in the civil dialogue between Georgians and Abkhaz, Georgians and Ossetians. At that time this institutionalization was a critical need for a large confidence-building project (under the mediation of International Alert) in which the Caucasus Dialogue was a Georgian partner of the project during seven years. On both sides of the conflict, the work had been carried out in 3 formats: Georgian-Abkhaz, regional (countries in the Caucasus region) and internal (the format focused on the work within the societies).

The relations between people have been maintained until now and the project laid the ground for development of new initiatives.

Since 2010 the Caucasus Dialogue has been working in the direction of restoring Abkhaz and South Ossetian archives. Our archival projects in different years has been supported by the Embassy of Great Britain and program COBERM (a joint EU- UNDP initiative). For this period more than 20 000 scanned pages of historical documents and some sound, photo and cinematic documents were passed to the Abkhaz and Ossetian sides.

Another line of the CDF activities related to the conflicts is IDP issues, in particular, community mobilization, aspects of integration, reinforcement of political involvement, tolerance and peace attitudes. In this line, the CDF cooperates with the Sinergy network which unites 18 NGOs working in the regions of Samegrelo, Imereti and Tbilisi. The CDF constantly participates in expert commissions under “the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia” to elaborate policy recommendations on IDP-related matters.
