The Centro de Prevencion, Tratamiento y Rehabilitacion de Victimas de la Tortura y sus Familiares (Centre for Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitacion of Victims of Torture and their Families, CPTRT) is a human rights defending institution created in 1995, to fight against the persistance in Honduras and elsewhere of torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.

Whereas the CPTRT was previously a clinic in the traditional sense, the CPTRT has developed over time to focus on the consequences of torture for survivors and/or families of those tortured, using preventive measures in jails, displaced or threatened communities, the police system and civil society in general. It now contributes on a national level to influencing politics and research.

Its work includes:

The Programa de Educación Prosocial de las emociones actitudes y valores para la prevención de la violencia. This supports training and violence prevention projects.

Propuesta para el desarrollo de habilidades y actitudes para la convivencia pacífica (multiplicación del curso Edupaz 2007) This project's aims were to contribute to a culture of peace and non violence at the Sagrado Corazón de Maria juvenile detention centre, helping young detainees to improve their lives and deal with conflict situations.

Joven a Joven Construyendo Ciudadanía This work supports youth initiatives related to strengthening youth leadership, the prevention of organised social violence and citizenship building processes, identifying the needs and interests of young people in the Nueva Suyapa Community. It aims to promote youth organisations and create mechanisms for a critical citizenry able to to demand respect for its civil, political, economic and cultural rights.

Construyendo alternativas de Paz y Seguridad desde las y los jóvenes (Constructing peaceful alternatives and security by and for young people). This project works with educational establishments, their staff and parents, with whom it aims to help generate different forms of youth engagement with violence prevention strategies in neighbourhoods with high rates of violence, through art and sports programmes.
