Foundation for  Development, Democracy  and Human Rights (FoDDHR) was established in April, 2004 in order to contribute to the elimination of poverty in Eastern Sierra Leone, with a focus on promoting women and children’s rights. FoDDHR works with local communities and civil society partners to better understand, represent and address the rights, needs and aspirations of the poor . Through advocacy, networking and capacity building, the organisation hopes to contribute to achieving peace and development in post-conflict communities.

FoDDHR has participated in several peace initiatives in Sierra Leone and works to identify early warning signs of conflict to engage community stakeholders. For example, during the 2012 elections there was animosity among political party members and the campaign period was marred by violence and political intolerance. FoDDHR organised dialogue sessions for political party members to debate issues and common ground.

One of the organisation's core programmes is security and justice. FoDDHR participated in the popularisation of Sierra Leone's Truth and Reconciliation Commision's recommendations and are still leading advocacy for the TRC recommendations to be implemented. The organisation is currently leading a process in Kenema to mediate between local and national politicians. FoDDHR regularly organises peacebuilding forums in communities where they endeavour to mobilise a broad spectrum of society.
