Stop repression on Rohingyas, rights body asks Myanmar

Places memo at Myanmar embassy in Dhaka

Rights body, Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) today submitted a memorandum to the office of Myanmar embassy in Dhaka, demanding that Myanmar government immediately stop repression on Rohingyas and bring them back from Bangladesh to that country.

HRPB leaders led by its President Advocate Manzill Murshid handed over the memorandum containing seven demands including that of withdrawing army and other forces of the government from Rakhine state of Myanmar to the official concerned of that country’s embassy in Dhaka.

In the memorandum, the organisation demanded formation of an independent and neutral commission to unearth torture on Rohingyas and violation of the human rights and to bring the people responsible for the incidents of torture and human rights violation to the book.

It also demanded that Myanmar government compensate the victimised Rohingyas and solve the Rohingya crisis recognising them as citizen.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) also expressed deep concern with the crackdown on people at north-western Rakhine province.

They also urged Bangladesh government to ensure the security of lives and properties of Rohingyas who took shelter in Bangladesh and send them back through consulting with the government of Myanmar.
