The Instituto de Estudios Estratégicos y Políticas Públicas (Institute of Strategic Studies and Public Policy, IEEPP), founded in 2005, is a thinktank dedicated to strengthening citizen participation in public issues and contributing to the development of public policies for transparent, inclusive and democratic governance.

The IEEPP has two key thematic programmes: democratic security, and social and inclusive governance. It develops its work through four areas of strategic action: the generation of knowledge, influencing decision makers, strengthening social actors, and promoting informed and critical public opinion.

The democratic security programme focuses on analysing and influencing public policy on security, defence, Nicaraguan and Central American international relations, organised crime and regional integration. It works from a local, national and regional perspective, with one of its key projects being an annual survey of Nicaraguan perceptions of security.

In terms of strengthening social actors, IEEPP has promoted forums, debates, training and capacity building in particular for young people, women, local organisations and journalists. It develops educational materials and works to build local, national, regional and international networks.

IEEPP has created the Observatorio de las Violencias (Violence Observatory), as well as numerous publications and other information and violence prevention campaigns.

IEEPP is a member of a large number of Nicaraguan violence prevention networks, and also forms part of national initiatives to prevent violence, such as the Observatorio de Derechos Humanos y Autonómicos of Bluefields Indian and Caribbean University, Católicas por el Derecho a Decidir, Red de Mujeres contra la Violencia, Observatorio de la Universidad de las Regiones Autónomas de la Costa Caribe Nicaragüense and Grupo Venancia.

IEEPP is also a member of the Red Centroamericana para la Construcción de la Paz, and works with REDCEPAZ and the Instituto de Enseñanza para el Desarrollo Sostenible in Guatemala, the Fundación para Estudios para la Aplicación del Derecho in El Salvador, the Centro de Investigación y Promoción de los Derechos Humanos in Honduras, the Fundación de Servicio Exterior para la Paz y la Democracia in Costa Rica, and Servicio, Paz y Justicia in Panama.

IEEPP is seeking to be an active member of the Coalición Latinoamericana para la prevención de la violencia armada.
