ICIN is an interfaith, non-for-profit, community based organization established in 2006 to mitigate the numerous challenges faced by the inter-religious groups and the vulnerable groups (women, youth and children) as a result of recurrent violent conflicts in Plateau state. The organization promotes peace initiatives through humanitarian services, dialogue, community theater, health initiatives and community engagement in peace and security.

Vision: They envision a society where violent conflict is reduced, education and economic needs are addressed and accessible.

Mission: ‘’To promote peaceful coexistence among ethnic and religious groups, educational needs and economic empowerment of vulnerable groups through advocacy, research, capacity building and partnerships towards a developed society”.

Goal: ‘’To build the capacity and enhance the skills of people and institutions in areas of peace building, peace education, and economic-related activities for sustainable development in the society”.

It collaborates with different groups and institutions to achieve its goals. ICIN started its activities with humanitarian response, Peace Building, Gender, Security and Governance and Girl-Child Education.

Presently, ICIN is funded by the NEXUS FUND, reducing genocide and hate speeches in conflict communities. This project established 40 man “tension management network “ consisting of different groups as effective line of communication and an early warning mechanism to report issues of  security concern and reduce violent conflict. Also, ICIN is working with Justice Peace Development Commission, an organisation under the Archbishop Diocese with funding from Christian Aid on “Promoting Inclusive and Accountable Governance in a Peaceful Society in Plateau state: this project is ongoing and has created productive conflict mitigation, dialogue and engagement between duty bearers and the different communities irrespective of tribe or religion to sit monthly and discuss issues on peace, security and governance. Over a 2,000 stakeholders have been reached in the process. We have worked with the Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP), a DFID funded programme, on a Security and Governance Project in reducing violent conflict. It belongs to several coalitions of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on the Plateau.

With the NSRP project, ICIN has established a peace structure called Community Peace Partnership (CPP) comprised of leaders from different religions and ethnic groups in three most conflict affected local government areas of Plateau State. About 120 leaders’ capacity has been built in early warning and response to conflict, conflict mitigation and transformation, mediation and dialogue, gender and conflict sensitivity. 

The CPPs have become very coordinated with the institutions that provide security. This has enhanced inclusion of women and other marginalized groups in peace building and decision making like never before. They have also contributed immensely in reducing escalation of violent conflict and fostering peaceful coexistence in their communities.

ICIN played significant roles in the passage to law the Child Right Bill and Gender and Equal Opportunity Bill. The further implementations of these laws will serve as protection for women and children.

ICIN over the years achieved community integration among different groups. They are working on re-integration of the displaced communities. On-going dialogue from the groups that were involved in conflict with the establishment of ICIN Learning Centre serving as a centre for advocacy on the rights of the marginalised group.
