Just Peace Initiatives (JPI) works to build a society based on peace and justice by harnessing the creative energies of the poor and disadvantaged. The realisation of this aim is done through collaboration of partner communities and organisations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The projects of JPI aim to support and develop replicable models and strategies for sustainable development and restoration of peace and justice based on community participation.

It was registered under the 1961 social welfare control and ordinance act in 2005 in the Khyber Pukhtoonkhawa province of Pakistan.

JPI has implemented a project for victims of torture with EU and European support, a dispute resolution project funded by the Asia Foundation and Australian Embassy now extended to 24 Districts, and an alternative dispute resolution and community policing project in five districts of Baluchistan province funded by the British Embassy and the Asia Foundation.

JPI personnel work as anchors, information sources, talk show guest, violent conflict investigators and hosts on local and international radio and television. The founder of JPI has written four TV plays about drugs, HIV/AIDS awareness, domestic violence, restorative justice and honour killings.

JPI has conducted research and published books on Jirga (indigenous peace building institutions in Pakistan and Afghanistan), best practice, Pukhtoon traditions in a modern perspective, the Hujra informal community-based indigenous institution and restorative justice systems.

Currently, JPI is working on addressing gender based violence through an alternative dispute resolution mechanism at Kohat and New Durrani IDP’s Camp with UNFPA. It is also working on social cohesion and resilience with UNICEF at Swat, Dir and Bajur agency (conflict areas), capacity building of lawyers and judges in alternative dispute resolution, restorative justice and conflict transformation with the judicial academy Peshawar.

JPI also believes in the power of sport to engage young people in peacebuilding, and uses games such as volleyball, football and cricket to spread their messages of peaceful co-existence, HIV/AIDS awareness and ending domestic violence.
