The Legal Access Centre (LAC) is an independent justice organisation established in 2009 by a group of paralegal and human rights activists with experience of working with human rights organisations and law firms.

Its main activities are:

• Providing legal advice to poor individuals, groups and communities.
• Documenting and researching human rights violations and abuses.
• Monitoring detention centres and court proceedings at local and magistrate courts level.
• Promoting and protecting women's and children’s right through sensitisation and training sessions.
• Undertaking advocacy and lobbying on the rules and procedures hindering access to justice.
• Facilitating training for law enforcement officials.
• Providing training on peacebuilding initiatives, including early warning, response and conflict prevention.
• Mediating at community level and preaching peace through community development.

At community level the organisation has, for example targeted four communities in the Bombali district, especially in the Makarie Gbanti chiefdom, and four communities of the Tonkolili district in the Malal Mara chiefdom. 25 participants and 50 beneficiaries from community benefited from training on conflict prevention and early warning signs.

LAC collaborates with other local and international organisations, including the Sierra Leone Network on the Right to Food and the West African Network for Peacebuilding.
