Mouvement Panafricain de la Jeunesse Féminine pour la paix (MOPAJEF, Young Women PanAfrican Movement for Peace) was established in April 2002 with the aim of consolidating and organising the role of women and youth in the culture of peace, regardless of their social status.
In the last decade, the African continent, particularly the sub-west African region, has suffered from conflict, armed rebellions and war. People suffered from the violence, mainly young females, children and women. This resulted in the creation of MOPAJEP, a non-governmental organisation aiming to strive for peace, democratisation and advocacy for human rights. It puts great emphasis on human rights, particularly those of women and girls in Africa.
Programmes and activities
- Participation in the referendum of June 2005 in Chad, in the presidential elections in Liberia, Guinea Bissau, Burkina Faso (2005).
- Training of 43 young people in Anyama in the electoral process and carried out a voting education project targeted at 100,000 young people in Côte d'Ivoire. (2006).
- Periodic meetings with ex-combatants and sex slaves of war in Côte d'Ivoire.
- Monitoring of the DDR process initiated by PNDDR (National Disarmament Demobilization and Reintegration Programme).
- Raising awareness of the root causes and consequences of conflicts, wars and small arms.
- Awareness campaign on peace and reintegration of ex-combatants.
- Training workshops on the culture of peace.
- Establishment of a chain of African radio stations for peace.
- The organisation of socio-cultural exchanges.
