REACH is one the oldest Iraqi peacebuilding organisations. Founded in 1995 by former staff members of Oxfam-UK, Reach was formed in the Kurdish regions of Northern Iraq, at a time when non-governmental organisations were unlawful in the rest of the country. Reach has therefore accumulated more experience than most Iraqi organisations that were formed after 1995 in the rest of the country, especially in the areas of providing food and assistance to marginalised communities, IDPs and refugees.

Over the years, it has extended its mandate and has actively supported the establishment and the capacity building of community-based organisation across Kurdistan. Since 1995, REACH has focused on raising awareness and skills of communities in peacebuilding and conflict management.

Through workshops and awareness sessions, REACH has worked with diverse groups such as NGOs, religious leaders, young people, the elderly, and local authorities, raising their a wareness in conflict management and launching dialogues on conflict issues. Reflecting on theoretical models and introducing aspects of Iraqi customary law and local traditions to solve conflict, REACH has built the capacity of tribe and community leaders and followed them up throughout conflict resolution cases.
