Transparency International Rwanda (TI-R) fights against corruption and promotes good governance in Rwanda. The organisation works towards this by:
- Developing prevention mechanisms to fight corruption and related offences;
- Enhancing partnerships and developing sustainable coalitions among various stakeholders;
- Promoting citizen participation, corporate accountability in the fight against corruption; and
- Developing organisational and human capacity to effectively support various actors and manage issues of corruption.
Activities
Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre
This project is aimed at addressing citizens’ concern regarding corruption related issues at the grassroots level. The centre receives complaints from victims and witnesses of corruption, and provides them with legal advice in order to equip them to fight corruption and advocate for their cases.
'The Transparent' magazine:
TI-R publishes a quarterly magazine, “The Transparent” aimed at researching, reporting and exposing corruption practices in Rwanda. It is published in English, French and Kinyarwanda and distributed to the targeted audience - government officials, private sector, civil society and international organisations. The magazine readership contributes to increasing knowledge of corruption and bad governance issues among literate Rwandan residents.
Partnership
Transparency Rwanda has built good working relationships with the Rwandan Government institutions at different levels as this is a requirement for its activities to be conducted smoothly.
Research
The organisation sees research as a crucial tool in addressing issues of corruption and bad governance as it provides evidences with which TI-R can use to advocate for systemic change where necessary. Topics covered by TI-R’s research include: corruption, justice, land, education, gender, procurement, the civil society and media.
