Tierra Nueva (New Planet) was founded by a group of young professionals working for different organisations within the department of Huehuetengo. In the years following the signing of the Peace Accords they witnessed the closure of many of the organisations within the department, so decided to form their own NGO to help the people affected by violence reconstruct their lives. Tierra Nueva aims to support the families of those that disappeared, victims of domestic and sexual violence by offering psychological counselling.

With a team of in-house and contracted psychologists, Tierra Nueva manages a programme of support for the families of people who disappeared during the years of the armed conflict and for victims of violence.
