Union “Momavlis Tskhinvali” (Tskhinvali of the Future) works for the protection of Georgian IDPs from South Ossetia as well as the re-building of trust  between Ossetian and Georgian communities. It was established in 1997.

Activities

With the financial support of the Organisation for Aid to Refugees (OPU), Momavlis Tskhinvali has organised numerous activities in Tbilisi, Gori and Khashuru from 2008 to 2015:

• Establishment of educational centres for IDPs in which computer and English language classes were delivered;
• Establishment of consultation centres in IDP settlements of Tserovani, Koda, Gori and Tbilisi;
• Supporting 12 small business projects in IDP settlements of Tserovani, Koda, Gori and Tbilisi;
• Supporting IDP children's participation in youth festivals and other cultural events;
• Opening of employment centres for IDPs in Tbilisi and Gori;
• Opening of libraries for IDPs in Tbilisi and Gori;
• Providing financial support to IDPs suffering from severe illnesses and social marginalisation;
• Establishment of community centres in IDP settlements of Tserovani, Koda and Gori;
• Conducted an exchange program that entailed internship programs of our staff and our Czech partner in Tbilisi, Prague and Brno;
• Opening of a daycare centre and hostel in Khashuri; and
• Opening a special facility centre for disabled IDPs in Khashuri, which enabled them to hire support equipment.

The organisation has been working to rebuild trust between Georgian and Ossetian communities since 1997:

• The organisation developed and implemented a program called “Building Peaceful Future is in Your Hands” (1997-2005), under which the organisation has conducted post-traumatic rehabilitation for IDP children and youth from the Tskhinvali region, as well as Georgian and Ossetian residents living in the region.
• In 2002 Confederation “Tskhinvali Hourse” was established with the initiative of 10 Georgian and 4 Tskhinvali-based NGOs;
• In 2002 Tskhinvali hosted the first Georgian-Ossetian joint activity “Children for Peace”, with participation of Georgian school children from Kurta (a village north of Tskhinvali, controlled by Georgians until 2008 and deserted since then) and Ossetian children from all schools in Tskhinvali;
• Educational and cultural trips of Ossetian children to other parts of Georgia;
• Construction of the Georgian-Ossetian Kindergarten in the mountainous village of Dzartsemi (a village north of Tskhinvali, controlled by Georgians until 2008 and deserted since then) in South Ossetia with the financial support of France-based “Caucasus Gardens” in 2003;
• Opening of a foreign language teaching centre in Tskhinvali with the financial support of France-based “Caucasus Gardens” in 2003;
• Members of the organization took part in Georgian-Ossetian dialogue (supported by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in Warsaw and Wroclaw in 2006;
• Members of the organization took part in a Georgian-Ossetian conference (supported by the “IKV PAX Christi”) in Netherlands in 2006;
• In 2007 with request from Ossetian NGOs, the organisation co-founded the “Georgian Ossetian Civil Forum”;
• Members of the organization took part in Georgian-Ossetian dialogue (under the “Georgian-Ossetian Civil Forum” and supported by the “IKV PAX Christi”) in Brussels and Amsterdam in December 2008;
• The organisation (with the support of Open Society Georgia and in partnership with Tskhinvali-based organisations) conducted a project Photo-Almanac “This is the Outcome of War”;
• In 2010-2011 the organisation co-organised the Project "Ex-Combatants Against Violence” (supported by the European Union and United Nations), which gathered former Georgian and Ossetian combatants. A documentary “Trace of War” was produced within the project;
• Members of the organisation participated in the project “Dialogue of Generations; Let’s Learn the Lessons of War” that took part from 2013 to 2015 (supported by the European Union and United Nations). Project participants included persons who worked as high ranking officials and decision-makers before the conflict as well as representatives of younger generations. A documentary “Dialogue of Generations” was produced and a book “Lessons of the Past” was published; and
• In December 2014 the organisation co-organised a New Year’s open market in the village of Ergneti, bordering Tskhinvali. The open market gathered 1000 persons including people from neighbouring villages, Gori and Tbilisi.
