Youth Initiative (YI) is youth-led organisation working to empower young people in Nepal. YI is one of the leading Nepali youth organisations working in the field of youth empowerment, strengthening of student and youth politics, promotion and practice of civic engagement, democratization, peace and human rights.

The organisation sees their work divided into three areas:

  • Inform young people about the global, national and local issues and concerns that affect their everyday living.
  • Empower young people by organising them, increasing their access and control over resources and by building capacity through appropriate training, orientation and creating opportunities.
  • Involve young people by increasing youth representation in governance of all political, social and economic institutions at national and sub national level.

Programmes

Civic Leadership School

Civic Leadership School (CLS) is an intensive five-day residential programme for emerging Nepali youth leaders. CLS fellows go through a series of outdoor and indoor activities that challenge their physical and intellectual comfort zones. They explore the complex challenges that affect their lives and communities today, and are introduced to the tools and strategies for leadership development, peacebuilding initiatives and civic engagement and also build network with fellow young leaders.

CLS's major objective has been to identify young leaders in their respective fields and communities, bring them together and sharpen their leadership skills, interact with each other in the field of development, government, private sector and develop networks that will promote lifelong community involvement and peacebuilding.

Multi stakeholder's dialogue for collaboration

This programme connects different stakeholders from civil society, politics, the media, and other stakeholders, to address the issue facing young people at a district level and to take action point in order to reduce youth participation in violence .

Collaborative Leadership and Dialogue

The objective of this programme, targeted to Nepali Young Leaders, is to increase the dialogue and collaboration among the youth leaders at the local level and contribute in strengthening the role of youth in the local peace and democratization process.

Together for Change

Youth Initiative implemented it's "GIRLS Lead Program" with an objective to empower girls through sports. The graduates of the programme implemented a mini project "Together For Change". The mini project included various activities including the Futsal (mini version of football), panel discussions, workshops and life skill training for 25 young people from diverse backgrounds.

Youth Discussion Series

Youth Initiative organizes a discussion at its office premises. The discussion mainly focuses on the contemporary issues that directly or indirectly affects or influences the youth of Nepal. This chain, which comprises the every discussions, is collectively known as Youth Discussion Series and it is one of the oldest and continual activities of Youth Initiative.

Youth Discussion Series aims to foster the habit of discussion amongst young people. It aims to build a pool of future leaders and thinkers needed to transform society, providing the platform for intellectual development and leadership to young people.

Street Bahas

This programme envisions a common platform for youth to discuss debate and sensitize the issue of corruption in the public sphere through democratic process. It also involves the general population where they can give their input and join youth activism against corruption.
