African Values and Heritage Initiative works to promote peace in Nigeria, with a particular focus on schools.

African Values and Heritage Initiative (AVAHI) was formed out of the desire to promote a renaissance of African moral values which are intended with Democratic tenets, peaceful co-existence, common sense of nationality and a prosperous African society.

It was established in 2013 in a secondary school hall as a counselling class, “Effective international college Jos”. It was meant to help students, teachers and PTA members instil the right kind of character or virtues that will enable them co-exist peacefully with others who are not of their culture or religion.

The organisation focuses on using ethics and African moral values to champion peaceful co-existence and democratic values in Nigerians.

In the last four years, AVAHI has conducted youth-based programmes in secondary schools, with Students and Teachers, University project with the students,  which had helped to instill character building, tolerance, diverse culture acceptance, Democratic values and peaceful co-existence among diverse beneficiaries.

Some of the projects organized

1. Senior Students' Right Of Leadership In Schools (SS.ROLIS) was organized in collaboration with National Orientation Agency, Jos branch. The aim of the project was to instill democratic tenet on the students as they learn to lead from their school and as well become a patriotic citizen of Nigeria. it was a leadership training for secondary school students in Senior Classes, and the project lasted for one month and two weeks. We conducted the project in ten secondary schools with Jos north and south.

2. School Lead Ownership Of their Community (SLOTCO) was a project we partnered with Ministry of education Plateau state and National Orientation Agency to implement in 2014. The project was aimed at promoting professional ethics among teachers and enlighten schools administrators on how their various schools can contribute and spur development in their host community. The project confided honourary awards to two selected academicians as "Academic Icon and Administrative Icon". Ten school attended the project and implemented neighborhood project in their host communities.

3. We organized a two day workshop on Business Ethics with students of University of Jos, Jos Plateau state in 2016. focusing on developing ethical standard necessary for today's entrepreneurship and building ethical career. Five department were in attendance, there were; Business Administration, Accounting, Economic and Banking and Finance department.

4. Youth Quest for Good Governance was one day civic education projected organized for youth in Awka Anambra state in 2017. with the aim to enlighten youth on how to participate in governance of their community, engage their elected officials and champion good governance advocacy in their community.

Our organization was selected to pilot and coordinate Vote Not Fight Campaign in Anambra Central Senatorial District on Anambra gubernatorial election 18th November, 2017. The campaign give the organization opportunity to partner with INEC AND IPAC to implement Voters Education project in Awka, and the campaign team from organization visited, prominent peoples, traditional rulers, religious leaders and the masses in seven local government within the Anambra Central Senatorial District.
