Ceeds of Peace was founded in 2012 by two women that have worked for peace for nearly two decades, Dr. Maya Soetoro-Ng and Dr, Kerrie Urosevich. They came upon the realisation that exposure to the topics and skill sets around being a peacebuilder were lacking in young children and youth. They wished to ensure that youth are taught peacebuilding skills from a very young age. Ceeds of Peace asks all adults to take responsibility for modelling peaceful behaviours in all their interactions with youth, and to model and teach youth how to be peacebuilders themselves.
Their main activities are public educational sessions that introduce the field of peacebuilding and teach hands-on skills to adult and youth that center around leadership, diversity, acceptance, and our 'Ceeds' of critical thinking, courage, compassion, conflict resolution, commitment, collaboration and connection.
Taught individuals are then asked to teach the same concepts and skills to another circle of adults and youth, to widen the impact. They hope to raise a generation of peacebuilders that are prepared to enter the complex world in which we all live with compassion in their hearts and leadership at their side.
Thus far, the organisation has reached 7,000 people directly and many more indirectly. They primarily serve the state of Hawaii and are finding ways to serve other states and nations, They partner with the State Department of Education to implement education policies.
