Community Motivation & Development Organisation (CMDO) was established in 1998 and works in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on a whole range of issues related to peace, such as radicalisation and religious militancy.
The organisation sees education having a key role in peace, development and social change. CMDO bases its activity on the idea that by providing quality, informed and equal education for all, barriers to peace in Pakistan - such as poverty, human rights violations, and radicalisation - can be overcome.
Much of the work of CMDO, therefore, is aimed at protecting young people from radicalisation through both informal, early-years education and formal school education projects. So far, its informal education programmes have benefited almost 4,000 children and formal school programmes have reached out to over 4,700 children.
