Over the years, EWAL has worked in the area of women's empowerment, providing training in tailoring, baking, soap making, hair dressing and other skills. Since its establishment in 2009, the organisation has trained over 350 women in urban and rural areas of Liberia, many of whom are now operating their own small businesses to sustain themselves. Currently, EWAL is building the capacity of women in Zorzor, Lofa county. Its current activities are centreed on the provision of mediation skills to help women deal with community level tensions among themselves and others.

Peacebuilding in Northern Liberia

EWAL is working in northern Liberia to bring together different faith and tribal groups. EWAL has identified examples of tension and discrimination between Muslim/Mandingo populations and other communities. Since the war Muslim/Mandingo people have be forced out of towns. No longer allowed to live there, they are only permitted to sell goods at the market and leave before nightfall. Because of EWAL's intervention, tension between these communities has reduced.
