Last updated: December 2017

Heal Zimbabwe Trust (HZT) is a non-profit peacebuilding organisation established in 2009 with a mission to prevent and transform conflicts in Zimbabwe with a particular focus on social justice and human rights protection. We envision a peaceful and prosperous Zimbabwe that celebrates diversity in local communities. We have five programming thematic areas which are; (a) Community Protection and Resilience Program; (b) Livelihood Restoration and Capacity Building Program; (c) Peacebuilding and Conflict Transformation;  (d) Governance and Accountability Program and (e) Transitional Justice.

Our organization is community oriented and its uses local knowledge systems and practices to promote community cohesion and peaceful-coexistence in Zimbabwe’s local communities. In our work, we provide psychosocial support to victims of any forms of violence and emotional trauma with a view to empower communities to prevent, manage and transform conflicts in their communities. We also value strategic partnerships to rebuild family relations and community cohesion as conditions for sustainable national peace and development.

Heal Zimbabwe seeks to do this by facilitating dialogue between people of diverse political, religious and ethnic orientation. Based on values of inclusiveness, integrity, diversity, transparency and accountability, it works to strengthen the abilities of local communities in conflict prevention, mitigation, management and resolution initiatives; to restore the economic function of victims of politically motivated violence, particularly women and children; and to ensure the peaceful conduct of national democratic processes in the country.
