In 2009 the IDA’s Secretary Shazia Parveen was internationally recognised for her work with IDA, by the Women’s Peacepower Foundation with a Women of Peace Award. This award is given to people working for peace at a grassroots level. For the IDA the award is recognition of the importance of their initiatives. Ms Parveen has also been awarded the Bremen Peace Prize by the Threshold Foundation for her relentless fight against slavery in Pakistan.

The IDA regularly speaks out against the violation of minority rights in Pakistan and in this regard, organised protests following the murder of Federal Minister for Minority Affairs, Shahbaz Bhatti.
