The International Rescue Committee (IRC) operates across Uganda, serving Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Lira and Kitgum districts, and populations affected by conflict in Karamoja. The IRC implements relief and rehabilitation activities in the sectors of Health, Water and Sanitation, Education, Protection, Economic Recovery and Development, and programmes targeting Gender-based Violence.

The IRC has been implementing peacebuilding programmes in Karamoja since 2003 with support from USAID. During this time, the organisation has established a robust network of actors actively working for peace in Moroto, Kotido and Nakapiripirit districts. IRC works extensively with peace committees associated with different clan groupings in Karamoja, conducting awareness raising and training on topics from conflict prevention and resolution to the benefits of communal grazing.
