In 2012, International University of Peace and Sufism (IUPS) was opened in Pakistan to promote peace through the teachings of Sufism in the country. The Vice Chancellor of University of Sindh, Dr. Nazir A. Mughal in August 2012, inaugurated the university. Dr. Mughal hoped that this initiative would bring end to extremism and terrorism in Pakistan.

IUPS has started a three-month certificate course on “Religious Harmony and Tolerance: Role of Sufism” for candidates holding bachelor’s degrees. The university is affiliated with the University of Sindh.
