Justice Plus was established in November 1996, and has been involved since its creation in the promotion of human rights and the development of a culture of peace through the fight against impunity for crimes, tolerance and non-violence in Ituri, DR Congo.
Justice-Plus has a legal personality which was granted by the decree of the Minister of Justice and Human Rights nº 309/CAB/MIN/J and DH/ 2010 of 25 June 2010. Justice Plus was created on 3 November 1996 in the context of the turbulent situation in the DRC, when it was imperative to get the Congolese state to respect human rights and work for peace.
1. Experience in peacebuilding in Ituri and the DRC
With the support of the Belgian non-profit organisation VERBATIMS, Justice-Plus has carried out activities to prevent and manage the risks of identity-based conflicts in all the towns of the DRC, particularly during the electoral period, in order to prevent the risks of electoral conflicts based on identity issues.
2. Experience with PAX and CORDAID, in the framework of the CISPE programme (Consortium intégré pour la Stabilisation et la Paix à l'Est de la RDC)
As part of the community dialogue activities, Justice-Plus, with the support of PAX, carried out the activities of community consultations and barzas, the territorial round tables. The four territorial round tables led to the signing of the acts of commitment by the stakeholders. In addition to these activities, there were activities to support traditional chiefs and local community leaders in the resolution and transformation of identified conflicts.
3. With CORDAID, Justice-Plus carried out land mediation activities through the management of legal clinics in the 4 territories including DJUGU, IRUMU, MAHAGI and ARU. The dialogue approach was used.
As part of the stabilisation projects, we will organise training and awareness-raising sessions for cooperative members on the OECD guide and risk mitigation measures in mining sites.
In addition, we are identifying young people and training them in trades that offer opportunities.
