It was established as an effort to change a culture of violence it believes has become endemic in Kasese District.

KANWE promotes peacebuilding among women and conflicting parties in Kasese district through training and educating, advocacy and psychosocial support services. The organisation's objectives include:

  • Strengthening the local capacities of target communities to promote peace in their localities;
  • Advocating for appropriate peace initiatives and non-violent conflict; and
  • Facilitating social integration and post-conflict healing.
