Peace Foundation for Humanitarian Response and Development (PFHRD) was established in 2016. Based in Sana’a, Yemen, it works to address the needs of communities affected by the conflict. PFHRD implements activities in line with beneficiaries needs while taking the sustainability of its services into consideration.
The goals of the organisation are to:
- Empower local targeted communities by increasing their access to humanitarian relief and development as needed.
- Participate in achieving the millennium development goals.
- Build the capacity of individuals and institutions to enhance social and economic sustainable development.
- Empower women to enhance their roles as partners in relief, development and peace.
- Support youth and women in peacebuilding and strengthen democracy by supporting their participation in decision making.
- Participate in humanitarian response and recovery, and support conflict affected communities who are affected by human made and natural disasters.
PFHRD activities cover six main areas:
- Food security and livelihood
- WASH
- Health & Nutrition
- Protection & Gender
- Education
- Peacebuilding, conflict resolution & good governance
PFHRD has experienced team members with extensive experience working with international development agencies operating in Yemen. Founder and head of PFHRD, Maliha Alaasdi, is a development activist, writer, poet and the former UN project coordinator and Executive Director of Wojuh Foundation for Media & Development. Deputy director of PFHRD, Mr. Ali Mohammed, holds an MA degree in development and gender and was the former Policy Advisor for the Dutch Cooperation Mission in Yemen.
