The Global Family Peace Makers Initiative is based in central Nigeria and works to raise awareness of the need to live in peace among Nigeria's diverse communities. The organisation hopes that through their work they can overcome hatred and prejudice and show that, regardless of religious, ethnic, community, differences, peace is possible in Nigeria and the world at large.
The organisation achieves this by empowering people with the tools they need to resolve conflicts without violence. Recently they trained 60 youth leaders from Abuja to become peer educators and life coaches, spreading the message of peace to other young people.
The organisation has been organising and participating in town hall peace meetings. Ahead of the 2015 elections, the Peace Makers Initiative worked to prevent pre and post election fears and to forstall any youth violence during or after election. They were also involved in the Dialogue for Peace that was held on 28 May 2015 in Maitama Abuja. On the 30 May 2015 the organisation led a peace walk.
