SOWETO Community Based Organization is a South Sudanese non-profit organisation that works on peacebuilding and human rights activities. It is committed to the promotion of peace in local communities and the eradication of all forms of violence in the domestic, public, private and political spheres.
The SCBO strategy is to break the silence and spread awareness about conflict and violence against various categories of individuals at the community level. The organisation's main area of work is service provision to victims and survivors in conflict zone communities, particularly those who have suffered gender-based violence. However, it also undertakes activities that aim to prevent the occurrence of such violence through the use of media and with programmes at the primary and secondary school levels. This is in order to sensitise people, especially the young, about human rights concepts and to demystify myths surrounding conflict.
SCBO has run several campaigns aimed at promoting peaceful co-existence among communities with respect to human rights. As a result of these campaigns, communities have come up with solutions to conflicts through traditional systems and have requested more information on legal help, counselling services and general support. SCBO's main aim is to transform the mindset of people in regard to these issues. SCBO's mission and goals centre on education and capacity building of communities. Its major projects and achievements so far have revolved around building the skillset of local people to deal with conflict and human rights problems.
