Established in 1995, the Society of Development and Education for Small Households (SoDESH) is a local organisation with a strong presence in Satkhira District, Bangladesh. SoDESH’s mission is to empower vulnerable people, focusing on human rights and democracy, justice, good governance and gender equality. SoDESH has working relationships with the local administration, media and civil society, as well as key local and international NGOs active in Satkhira. SoDESH has already engaged on religious freedom of expression activities, hosted events and campaigns around human rights abuse and violence. They are also a member of the national Campaign for Good Governance network.

The vision of SoDESH is to establish a sustainable, poverty free, democratic society where good governance and gender equality are ensured.

Over the next five years, the organisation aims is to improve the livelihood security of the vulnerable and poor through work and programmes in the southwest part of Bangladesh especially in Satkhira, Khulna and Jessore district.

Strategies to achieve this goal include:

  • Gender sensitisation and women empowerment;
  • Promoting women's and children's education;
  • Establishing the rights of vulnerable and poor people through good governance; and
  • Promoting organisational culture and values

Border Security

SoDESH believes its key strengths are in social mobilisation, issue-based campaigning, local elites coordination, volunteerism, skilled staffs, national and local NGO relations and partnerships, and good relations with the press.

In a discussion meeting at Satkhira Adv. Sultana Kamal, Former Advisor of Caretaker Govt., Bangladesh 1n 5 November Said,''To solve border problems we need friendship discussion with adjacent Country." Govt. Officials, Development Workers, Reporters and Civil Society Members joined the discussion. SoDESH arranged the meeting.
