During the Ebola we learnt about environmental sanitation as prevention mechanism against sickness. This awareness geared us to form a Youth Action Group.

After series of consultative meetings, Youth Action Group was changed to community Based Organization with a new named – Youth Alliance for Community Development Sierra Leone (YAFCOD-SL). Later it was registered with Bo City Council, Bo District Council in 2014 and further registered with Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs and National Youth Commission.

Their area of Intervention from 2014 to 2016 includes:

  • Repairs and maintenance of roads, drainages, culverts and swamps after heavy rains.

Damages occurred by flooding in our communities where our political leaders such as Local Councillors or Honourable Member of Parliament neglected. Community role players, stake holders traditional Leaders were sensitized after the youth were mobilized on voluntary responsibility undertaken to task policies of YAFCOD-SL.

The following works were observed in six communities, three communities in Bo City    – Coronation field, - Moriba Town and - New York.

  • Sensitizational meetings on environmental sanitation, Human Right and values.

In Tikonko Chiefdom, two communities - Sembehun 17 and - Gondama, one community in Bumpeh Ngao Chiefdom in Pelewahun. In these communities’ child protection focus on the conventional Right of Children and their responsibilities, Women’s Right in decision making and leadership role in community development.

  • Empowerment of Youth/Women in income generation exercise.

In 2017 – January – 2018 June preaching on good Governance in terms of political tolerance among youths of different political background, right to choice, belong in the interest of Democracy.

Programmes were effective according to the community. Schools children were sensitized against political violence before, during and after election. Then acceptance of final election results which is still meandering in many communities today.

Printed handout about political violence, factors and prevention mechanisms, these were widely distributed in public gathering, businesses centers, lorry parks and market areas.

Electronics media was used to sensitize and dissemination of pertinent messages – songs and jingles.

70% percent of effective and efficient dissemination of information education and communication was successful through the assessment of violence rate in our communities.

They were successful in building peace between some motor bike riders and petty traders in terms of political inter tribal conflicts at shengeh community in Bo City.
