ACT for Peace is a broad alliance of advocates in the academic and education sector working for a just and lasting peace based on freedom, democracy and social justice. It was founded on April 24, 2014 as part of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT).

ACT for Peace works on a variety of initiatives focused on a wide range of issues. These include peacebuilding, dialogue, the release of political prisoners, the rights of Indigenous Peoples, the end of military attacks, and children's rights.

Activities

  • It calls for the government of the Philippines and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines to resume peace talks now.

ACT 1

  • During Pope Francis’ visit to the Philippines, ACT for Peace campaigned for the release of all political prisoners.
ACT 2
  • ACT for Peace protested the closure of Lumad (indigenous people) schools in Davao del Norte in Mindanao, calling on the government to make sure these indigenous schools resume in time for the annual school openings in June.
Act 3
  • ACT for Peace calls for an end in military attacks of schools, citing that there were 13 cases of military attacked on schools in southern Mindanao, affecting over 4000 indigenous children.
