The Institute of Peace and Development (INPED) aims to protect and promote human rights to support conflict transformation, peacebuilding and development in the Sindhuli district of Nepal. INPED educates marginalised groups in the need for cooperation with a sense of peace and social justice in order to assert the rights of the community.

Human Rights Education Programme

This project aims to raise awareness among people from Janajati ('indigenous') groups, about their rights and about peacebuilding. INPED formed groups in four Village Development Committees (VDCs) and offered training on human rights, indigenous people’s rights and peacebuilding. The groups met each month for discussions, and INPED supported them to lobby various government bodies about their needs. INPED also formed four student groups, and provided the same training to 2 students and 2 teachers from each group. These participants then passed on the training in their local schools, running monthly discussions.

Peacebuidling Program

INPED in collaboration with Creative International Forum conducted workshops on peacebuilding inviting district level politicians, members of civil society, women activists, media persons, conflict victims and members of local peace committee. Participants in the workshops discussed the district's situation and ensured their commitment to improve coexistence and social harmony among the different ethnic and identity groups.
